Winter is (hopefully) drawing to an end here in Texas and I am trying to make the best of this wintery coldness with this soul-warming pear and poppy seed cake: Three pear upside down cakes that are packed with almonds and stacked with poppy seed buttercream. Buttercream that is so loaded with poppy seeds its almost black! That’s my kind of cake, cause poppy seeds are my secret obsession. There is a German classic, Poppy Seed Crumble Cake (which was actually one of my first and most popular posts), I tell you – to die for. If you love poppy seeds. Or even if you don’t. But if you do, you will love this combination: poppy seeds and pears! A dream team that makes the cold winter weather just a little bit more bearable… a little bit.

I am so so impressed by your cake and especially how amazingly smooth and beautiful the icing looks! And the way the seeds get less the further up you go. Beautiful!
So glad you were featured on Sweetest Occasion so I could find your blog! I love your aesthetic. Looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful work!
I’m in love with this cake, it is gorgeous and tastes devine! I made it a month ago and would love to remake it again today, but the link to the recipe is not loading for some reason. Is there any way I can get the recipe without having to go through The Sweetest Occasion’s website?
I’m desperate here!!!
Thank you!
Hi Catherine, that is strange, the link works for me. Here you go: http://www.thesweetestoccasion.com/2015/02/pear-poppy-seed-layer-cake/
I just found your blog and I love everything! This cake is so stunning – I love the poppy seeds in the frosting. Where did you find the cake stand?
